In der nahen Zukunft ist künstliche Intelligenz allgegenwärtig und die Natur nur noch eine ferne Erinnerung. Rachel (Emilia Clarke) und Alvy (Chiwetel Ejiofor) möchten eine Familie gründen. Rachels Arbeit gibt ihnen die Gelegenheit, ein neues, von einem Technologieriesen entwickeltes Werkzeug namens Pegasus zu nutzen, das Paaren die Möglichkeit bietet, das Kind gleichberechtigt mit Hilfe einer abnehmbaren künstlichen Gebärmütter oder Pods auszutragen. Der Botaniker Alvy hat zwar Zweifel, aber seine Liebe zu Rachel lässt ihn das Experiment annehmen. Und so beginnt das verrückte Abenteuer der Elternschaft in dieser neuen Welt.
