Ein Raumschiff soll einen Testflug im Sonnensystem durchführen. Unter der Besatzung befinden sich menschenähnliche Roboter, die auf ihre Einsatzmöglichkeiten und ihr Zusammenspiel mit den Menschen geprüft werden sollen. Da der Komandant Pirx nicht weiß, wer Mensch, wer Roboter ist, entwickelt sich bald ein undurchsichtiger Machtkampf. Verfilmung einer tiefsinnigen Erzählung von Stanislaw Lem als perfekt inszeniertes und spannendes Weltraummärchen.
